Automatic Transmissions with Torque Converters Downshift Revmatching

I’ve had this question for a while, but I was wondering how do automatic transmissions get into lower gears without rev matching? As we all know in manual cars to slow down or accelerate we rev match blip the throttle and downshift, but how come in an automatic transmission (not DCT) when you slow down to a stop or just slow down a little bit at low RPMS how is it that it can get into a lower gear without rev matching blipping the throttle RPM shoots up?
