My HS advisor discourage me from going for a math/stats major. Heres his reasoning, can you tell me what you think?

He says that all math are pretty much automated at this point and unless i have PhD and be on the cutting edge of research i wont ever use them aside from pressing a button and applying a formula. He asks me why i should become a statistician when nowadays everyone can take some online courses and learn to use some statistical package.

It hit me kinda hard because im really good at math and a stats major is among my first choices. My advisor urges me to go for a physical science degree instead (chemistry, physics etc) or into computer science.

What are your thoughts on this?
